Forget what you think you know about porcelain. We aren't talking about delicate tea sets or bathroom tiles. At Galaxy Granite, we work with Large Format Porcelain Slabs (often called Sintered Stone). These massive, seamless sheets are created using advanced technology that mimics the natural formation of stone, but speeds it up to create a material that is denser and harder than granite.

Completely Heat Proof
Unlike Quartz (which has resin), Porcelain contains zero organic materials. It is fired at over 1200°C. You can place a scorching hot pan directly from the stove onto the countertop, or even use a blowtorch on it, and it will not scorch, burn, or discolor.
Indoor & Outdoor Versatility
Porcelain is UV Stable, meaning the sun will not fade its color. This makes it the #1 choice for outdoor kitchens, BBQ islands, and patio tables in Calgary, where harsh sun and freeze-thaw cycles can damage other materials.

​With a porosity of almost zero, porcelain is impervious to chemicals, acids, and deep stains. It is easy to clean and does not harbor bacteria, making it exceptionally safe for food preparation.

Cleaning
You can use almost anything. Warm soapy water is standard, but you can also use bleach or harsh cleaners for deep disinfection without damaging the surface.
Impact
While porcelain is hard, it can be brittle on the edges if hit with a heavy object (like a cast iron skillet). We recommend an "Eased" or slightly rounded edge profile to minimize chipping risk.
